Large resorts and smaller communities in Costa Rica have golf courses. It is loaded with public courses that will test your game or give you a relaxing day of golf.

Most courses are in the San Jose and Guanacaste areas and include:

San Jose area:

1. Valle del Sol

2. Cariari

3. Monteran

4. Los Reyes

5. Costa Rica Country Club

Guanacaste area:

1. Conchal

2. Four Seasons

3. Pinilla

4. Papagayo

5. Los Delfines

MidPacific or Jaco area:

I love golfing in Costa Rica. The weather is golf weather and even if you go alone, you get to play with very nice people. I don't know what it is about golf in Costa Rica ... it's just so different from other places. I have played in Georgia, Florida, California, and other countries - just not as fun as playing Costa Rica's wonderful weather - just imagine, no humidity!!!

Westin coming to Guanacaste in May 2010. Welcome Westin Playa Conchal

The Paradisus Reserva Conchal in Guanacaste, one of Costa Rica most popular destinations is now becoming the Westin Playa Conchal. Starting in May 2011 the hotel will have mayor renovations all of its 406 suites and the the resort itself. Luckily one thing that is not changing is that it will still be an all-inclusive resort, Westin’s first of that kind.
“Starwood is proud to expand the Westin Resorts portfolio with the addition of The Westin Playa Conchal Resort & Spa. Recent growth in the all-inclusive luxury resort market in Mexico and Central America, coupled with increasing demand from our SPG members seeking vacation packages have created fertile conditions for our entry in the all-inclusive market,” says Osvaldo Librizzi, president of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Latin America. “Known for its spectacular beaches, volcanoes and tropical forests, Costa Rica is a popular tourist and leisure destination and a terrific choice for the expansion of the Westin brand, which expects to nearly double its portfolio in Latin America by 2014.”

Reservations can only be made until April 2011 using the Paradisus brand. Westin has yet to establish rates or allow reservations (as of Oct 2011). You can always reserve to play at the Reserva Conchal golf course by reserving at the Reserva Conchal condos.
The condos offer options from a 1 bedroom condo for 2 people to spectacular villas that sleep up to 10 people and have private swimming pools overlooking the ocean and golf course.

Cariari is probably the best and most famed course in Costa Rica. Located near San Jose and next to the highway between the airport and San Jose, it is convenient to most area hotels.
I recommend playing Cariari - you will have to reconsider that low handicap you have after playing it.

Costa Rica's new golf courses coming 2010-11

I thought it might interest people to find out all the golf developments that are being built in Costa Rica. Most are expected to open in 2010-2011. There are 10+ courses coming and others still in deep freeze due to world financial conditions - but we expect that by 2012 there should be 15+ courses in use in Costa Rica and 20+ courses by 2015.
